Improvisation at Wainsgate

Improvisational practice is valued at Wainsgate as a way of finding out by doing

Improvisation has always been at the heart of Wainsgate Dances co-founder, Charlie Morrissey’s movement and performance practice.

He both teaches it, and invites teachers from around the world to faciltate workshops that explore diverse approaches to improvisation, including:

Seke Chimutengwende; Nita Little; Karen Nelson; K.J.Holmes; Makisig Akin & Anya Cloud; Kirstie Simson, Hugh Stanier, Katye Coe, Andrea Buckley, Lewys Holt and others

Monthly contact improvisation classes and jams are part of the regular programme.

“How fantastic to live in a little semi-rural town and have such amazing opportunities to dance on our doorstep… So great to be a middle aged woman who  only discovered that I love to dance as an adult to find that it is not too late to enjoy that – to take the learning seriously but to have fun too.

Thanks for bringing such great teachers to the valley and creating something really inspiring and inclusive at Wainsgate.”
